While a shorter 3-day option exists, this 4-day itinerary is highly recommended for better acclimatization, comfort, and a higher summit success rate

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Grassland → Rainforest
Your journey begins with a morning departure from Arusha (or Moshi) to Momella Gate. After registration, you’ll meet your professional trekking crew and an armed ranger who will accompany you throughout the hike.
The trek starts across open savannah, offering a rare walking safari experience. Expect to see buffalo, giraffes, warthogs, and antelope roaming freely with Mount Meru rising dramatically ahead.
Cross the scenic Ngare Nanyuki River before entering the lush montane forest. This section is rich in biodiversity, with birdsong filling the air and chances to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy.
Arrive at Miriakamba Hut, set in a peaceful forest clearing.

Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
Habitat: Rainforest → Moorland
After breakfast, begin a steady ascent through dense forest before transitioning into the open moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper and more scenic, revealing dramatic views of the Meru Crater and surrounding ridges.
You’ll pass along Elephant Ridge, a spectacular viewpoint offering glimpses into the volcanic crater below.
Arrive at Saddle Hut around midday for lunch and rest.

In the afternoon, hike to Little Meru (3,794m) for breathtaking sunset views and improved acclimatization. On clear days, enjoy distant views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
Habitat: Alpine desert → Forest
Your summit day begins around midnight, as you set off under a sky full of stars. The climb is steep and demanding, especially as you approach Rhino Point (3,850m) and continue along a narrow, dramatic ridge.
As dawn breaks, you reach Socialist Peak (4,566m) the summit of Mount Meru. From here, you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise with panoramic views stretching across Tanzania, including the iconic silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro.
After celebrating and taking photos, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut for overnight.
Note: Weather conditions (wind or ice) may affect summit access beyond Rhino Point. Your guide will always prioritize safety.
Hiking Time: 2–5 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed descent through the forest back to Momella Gate. You may choose a longer scenic route for more wildlife viewing and views of the ash cone.
At the gate:
• Receive your trekking certificates
• Celebrate with your mountain team
• Tip your guides, porters, and ranger
You will then be transferred back to Arusha or Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
